Civil Engineering Awareness in School
The Civil Engineering Awareness Program in School is an initiative to expose and introduce students from Form 5 of SM Sains Banting, Selangor to the field of Civil Engineering. Civil Engineering Awareness Talk involves a briefing on sharing knowledge related to the field of Civil Engineering. The explanation focuses on more specific topics covering the areas of StrucM, WRES, GeoTrEn and CBPM. Collaboration partners in this activity include DOSH (Department of Occupational Safety and Health), represented by En. Hj. Azman Bin Hussin @ Hussain, Assistant Director of DOSH shared information on safety and hazards in construction. Meanwhile, Lt. Ts. Mohd Fazil bin Ismail, Director, Corporate Communications & Consumer Affairs Unit Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Air Negara (SPAN) gave a talk about the importance of clean water and the process in the water treatment plant.
Moreover, Dr. -Ing Ilyani Akhmar Abu Bakar, a senior lecturer at the Division of Structural and Material, School of Civil Engineering, UiTM Shah Alam was presenting the application of the physics subject that the students take on bridge structure and the basic concept of structure elements. This session was collaborated with Desjaya Concrete Products Sdn. Bhd., Solid Housing Solutions and the Concrete Society of Malaysia.
Lastly, Dr Noraida from the Division of Geotechnical & Transportation Engineering, School of Civil Engineering, UiTM Shah Alam shares insight into geological hazards and mitigation procedures. This session has cooperated with Majlis Perbandaran Ampang Jaya (MPAJ). As part of the geotechnical hazard awareness program, students were actively involved in constructing prototypes of retaining walls using pieces of cupboard. This hands-on activity provided students with practical experience in applying the knowledge gained from the seminar and the interactive games. Building and testing their retaining wall prototypes deepened their understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and instilled a sense of accomplishment in participating in real-world engineering challenges.
