Water is the most critical resource issue of our lifetime and our children's lifetime. The health of our waters is the principal measure of how we live on the land.

WRES

In line with the emphasis placed by the country on developing and managing water resources sustainably and caring for the environment, the Division of Water Resources and Environmental Systems (WRES) of the School of Civil Engineering has assumed a significant role and responsibility since its establishment.

FOCUS AREA

To meet the evolving needs of the water resources and environmental system, the division has been providing foundation and advanced courses on the following focus areas:
  • Hydraulic Engineering
    • Studies the behaviour of fluids, applies hydraulic knowledge to practical fluid flow and involves designing water management systems.
  • Water Resources Engineering
    • Studies water movement and water quality, analyzing precipitation and groundwater to manage resources. Also, learn to ensure clean water delivery through treatment and distribution. In addition, studies on how to sustain groundwater resources through extraction and management strategies.
  • Environmental Engineering
    • Addresses wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal to protect public health and the environment. It also focuses on understanding and managing coastal processes and hazards to protect coastal communities and ecosystems.
Furthermore, among the courses offered in the master’s degree program are Environmental Management, Water Resources Planning and Management, Flood Management and Mitigation, Advanced Water Supply, Solid Waste Management, Erosion and Sedimentation, Groundwater Engineering, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Hazardous and Industrial Waste, Risk and Hazard Assessment, Environmental Management of Coastal Areas, and Air Pollution.


TEACHING AND LEARNING

Ideas from public policy and law, social sciences and humanities are often employed in conjunction with engineering principles and the practical aspects, to develop a better understanding of the role of engineering in the solution of water and environmental problems. RESEARCH

The faculty members in this division have been very active in conducting funded research projects from several research grant agencies including MOSTI (e-science fund), MOHE (FRGS), UiTM Internal Fund, CIDB, NAHRIM and the local industries. The research priorities in the division are Water, Climate and Life focuses on providing the journey to sustainability managing water resources, promoting environmental health, and fostering a harmonious balance between human activities and the natural world.
