Modular and Open System (MOST) Handover Ceremony From FKE and SMRI to JOBSA

On 15th July 2020, a collaboration between the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Smart Manufacturing Research Institute (SMRI), handed over four units of Modular and Open System (MOST) to Jawatankuasa Operasi dan Bencana Shah Alam (JOBSA). A ceremony was held at the Health Center, Universiti Teknologi MARA, where Associate Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Juliana Johari, the Dean of Faculty of Electrical Engineering who is also representing SMRI, handed over the devices to Prof. Azizan Abdullah, the Deputy-Vice

Chancellor (Student Affairs) on behalf of JOBSA.

MOST is a device designed and developed by Ts. Dr. Noorfadzli bin Abdul Razak and his team to expedite the process of hand sanitizing, temperature screening, and contact information access. MOST chassis is built using the aluminum bar. This chassis is attached with a spring-operated mechanism, used to dispense liquid sanitizer manually by foot. The chassis has a camera, infrared camera thermometer, touchscreen, barcode scanner, and tower light installed. These components are used to perform contactless temperature measurement, capture a person’s information, display the temperature, and alert the user about their health condition. The information can be data in any form such as name, phone number, identification number, and others as long it is in barcode format. MOST has been tested and proven to expedite this process.

A person only needs to stand in front of MOST, flash the barcode either by using a card or smartphone, and their health status will be displayed. Moreover, the data, including date, time, measured temperature, and person’s information, are recorded. In the future, MOST will be upgraded with the Internet of Thing (IoT) elements and Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithm. It will enable data in MOST to be monitored via web or smartphone app. This enhances MOST’s ability to detect a person infected by COVID19.

Currently, these devices are placed in a few crowded place in UiTM Shah Alam, such as the Health Center, student colleges, and the Chancellor Office. The device assists the university to perform Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in efforts to curb the spread of COVID19. Meanwhile, during the ceremony, Dr. Juliana also handed over 100 pieces of face shields and 100 pieces of mask extenders, to Dr. Zaiton Nasir, the Health Center Director, which will be distributed and used by Health Centre staff.

The faculty would like to congratulate Ts. Dr. Noorfadzli bin Abdul Razak and team members for successfully creating MOST, face shield, and mask extender. Besides that, this project was made possible by the funding from JOBSA HEP UiTM and UiTM.
