StrucM
The Division of Structural and Materials Engineering (StrucM) constantly contributes to adapting to the rapid changes and specialization of programs in Civil Engineering with an apparent focus on structural engineering and construction materials.
FOCUS AREA
To keep abreast with the needs of construction industries, the division has been providing foundation and advanced courses on the following focus areas:
- Construction Material
- Material Design and Analysis
- Structure Analysis and Design
- Modelling and analysis tools employed for numerical quantifying and visualising structural response.
TEACHING AND LEARNING
Civil engineering stresses the fusion of theory and concept with practical engineering applications. Therefore, the curriculum integrates site visits and practitioner talks to complement the laboratory exercises conducted on campus. This comprehensive approach ensures that students acquire theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience for their future careers. The available laboratory:
- Heavy Structure Lab
- Concrete Lab
- Fabrication Lab
- Light Structure Lab
- Studio IDP 1
- Studio IDP 2
RESEARCH
Besides high-quality teaching and instruction at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, the members of the division are actively involved in basic and applied research and consultancy and provide high-quality technical advisory support through various Research and Development projects and consultancy to various organizations. The research priorities in the division are Advanced Concrete Material and Integrated Sustainability in Multi-Material.
