GeoTrEn

In the dynamic landscape of civil engineering, the Division of Geotechnical and Transportation Engineering (GeoTrEn) stands as a beacon of excellence, dedicated to shaping the future of infrastructure. As part of the School of Civil Engineering, the division is committed to fostering innovation, advancing knowledge, and preparing the next generation of engineers to meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving world.

FOCUS AREA

Here, the division was channelled into three focus areas:

  • Geotechnical Engineering
    • Studies the interplay between soil, rock, and structures, seeking sustainable solutions for foundations, slopes, and earth retention systems
  • Highway Engineering
    • The focus encompasses the design of efficient road networks and the study of traffic flow, ensuring safe and seamless transportation systems
  • Transportation Engineering
    • Addresses the complexities of modern mobility, researching and implementing solutions for urban transit, intelligent transportation systems, and sustainable transportation

TEACHING AND LEARNING

Believe in learning by doing. Thus, the students engage in practical experiences, including site visits, laboratory work, and collaborative projects with industry partners. The available laboratory:

  • Geology Lab
  • Rock Mechanic Lab
  • Soil Mechanic Lab 1 & 2
  • Advanced Soil Mechanic Lab
  • Survey Lab
  • Highway Lab
  • Advanced Highway Lab

RESEARCH

The division members are at the forefront of research, pushing the boundaries of knowledge in geotechnics, highway engineering, and transportation. Besides, international and industrial collaboration contributes to the global conversation on resilient infrastructure and sustainable transport. The research priorities in the division are Geoforensic Investigation, Traffic Engineering and Safety, and Sustainable Pavement.
