Prof Dr Zakiah Ahmad, Dean of Faculty of Civil Engineering has been invited as distinguished speaker at 6th International Timber Construction Symposium from 21-22nd August 2019 at Koreana Hotel, Seoul, Korea.

The purpose of the symposium is to share information on excellent cases, system and future prospects of wood urbanism for enhancing the wood utilization and activity timber construction in Korea.

Prof Dr Zakiah delivered her talk entitled 'Development of Standards for timber structures using tropical hardwood'. She shared her research work in gathering engineering data from solid timber, glulam and cross laminated timber for the development of design standards. The Eurocode Standards provide engineering data from European softwood and hardwood that may not suitable for tropical harwood.

Prof Dr Zakiah also has been invited as expert speaker at expert seminar to share her experience in the timber construction in Malaysia. Experts from Japan, Korea, Finland and Canada were also present to discuss several issues such as fire performance, construction Act, policy and education faced by different countries in timber construction
