Short Course on River Engineering: Theory and Modeling organized by Flood Control Research Group Faculty of Civil Engineering UiTM

Name of Program: Short Course on River Engineering: Theory and Modeling organized by Flood Control Research Group Faculty of Civil Engineering UiTM

Date: 13-15 March 2018

Venue : Faculty of Civil Engineering, UiTM Shah Alam, Selangor

The short course is about river engineering, which covers river morphology, instream river works, sediment transport and river modeling. Theory and practice in physical modeling and watershed modeling are also included. This course is aimed that the theory and modeling are applicable to real world problems and solutions in river engineering field.

ORGANIZED BY: FLOOD CONTROL RESEARCH GROUP (FCRG) FACULTY OF CIVIL ENGINEERING, UNIVERSITI TEKNOLOGI MARA

Speaker: Professor Dr Ingeniur Silke Wieprecht

Prof Dr Silke Wieprecht currently works at the Institute for Modelling Hydraulic and Environmental Systems, Universität Stuttgart. She is the chair of hydraulic engineering and water resources management of the institute for modelling hydraulic and environmental systems at the university. Prof. Silke does research in Geochemistry, Geomicrobiology and Geology. Her other research interests are hydraulics and hydrology which specializing on hydromorphology, environmental system, sedimentation and physical modelling. Her current project is ‘Sediment management in the Upper Rhine’. She had also conducted research in Malaysia in 2016 and proposed Malaysia to consider improving its ecology in order to help the economy.

Associate Professor Dr Wei-Koon Lee

Dr Lee is the Head of Water Resources and Environmental Systems (WRES) Division, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia. He had graduated from University of Oxford for PhD in Civil Engineering and Nanyang Technological University for Master in Civil Engineering. His research interests are hydroinformatics, coastal and hydraulic engineering. He specializes in computational modelling and enjoys programming as a versatile tool (e.g. FORTRAN and MATLAB) to model and solve various fluid related problems, including shallow water environment, tidal estuary, density-stratified flow, Lagrangian transport, potential flow, and chaotic mixing.

Dr Jazuri Abdullah:

Dr Jazuri Abdullah is a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Civil Engineering Universiti Teknologi MARA. He joined UiTM in September 2013 after completing his PhD in Civil Engineering at Colorado State University, USA. He had graduated from Stuttgart University, Germany for Master of Science in Water Resources Engineering and Management. Dr Jazuri involves in many researches and consultancies in water resources field. His research interests are hydrological modeling, statistical approach in climate analyses and hydrodynamics and sediment transport modeling system
